The main message for this topic I am on is to stop innocent drivers killing people or even killing themselves also I am here to encourage the younger generation (18-25) to drink sensible but don’t drive while you have had a few pints. And to reduce the points taken off there licences.

I am targeting the older and younger drivers due to the fact that most young people who drive think there invincible when they drink and drive. Also the older public because they think when they are getting through a bad time that because there experienced at driving there ok to drink and drive when its not also look at it in the point of the people who die from drivers who don’t obey the law.

The main purpose of the drink and drive campaign is to do with council and there is a website called http://www.cadd.org.uk/ and they also campaign about drink and driving, also cadd stands for campaign against drink driving.

THE YEAR OF 1971
In 1872 it became an offence to be drunk in charge of carriages, horses, cattle and steam engines!!

THE YEAR OF 1925 CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACT
In 1925 it became an offence to be found drunk in charge of ANY mechanically driven vehicle.

THE YEAR OF 1962 ROAD TRAFFIC ACT OF 1962
The possibility of using body fluids for alcohol analysis was first approached in the UK by the Road Traffic Act of 1962 (aka The Marples Act), although no legal limit was specified and it was not an offence to refuse to supply a blood or urine sample, although failing to do so could be used as supporting evidence to secure a drink driving conviction.
Before this act was introduced successful drink driving prosecutions relied solely upon the subjective tests and observations of so called 'police surgeons' and other evidence such as witness statements and the like.

THE YEAR OF 1964 ACCIDENTS, ALCOHOL AND RISK STUDY
A study entitled Grand Rapids Effects Revisited: Accidents, Alcohol and Risk funded by the US public health service and the Licensed Beverage Industries of New York that was carried out in 1964 found that 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood was the level at which the chances of being involved in a crash rises sharply for most drivers.

THE YEAR OF 1965 UK GOVERNMENT PREPARES TO INTRODUCE NEW DRINK DRIVING LAW
The UK government announces that it is preparing to introduce a blood alcohol limit for drivers (drink driving limit). This move comes as a result of the increase of road traffic accidents involving drivers who had been drinking alcohol.

The main message for this topic I am on is to stop people of all ages to stop smoking for good because it seriously affects your health and the lungs which smoking will give you lung cancer if smoking for long length periods and it will affect the love ones around you because the toxic smoke exhaled is just as deadly as the tar inhaled.

I am targeting this generation due to the fact that they are wasting the life’s away because of smoking and that they have there whole life ahead of them. Also the fact that smoking is so addictive

There are many facts and figures about smoking including about 114,000 people in the UK die each year due to smoking Of these deaths, about 42,800 are from smoking-related cancers, 30,600 from cardiovascular disease and 29,100 die slowly from emphysema and other chronic lung diseases. Also people on average smoke 5,000 cigarettes a year.

The main purpose of the stop smoking campaign is to stop people from smoking because it doesn’t just affect yourself but the people around you. In this essay I Michael Clarke will be explaining the differences between the ancient Greek theatres to the modern day theatres. In the ancient Greek times the Theatrical flourished in ancient Greece between 550 and 220 BC. Also there where different types dramatic genres, Tragedy, Comedy, Satyr (Tragicomedy), usually based on Greek mythology. Did you know back then they held more people in the audience a whopping 14,000 but modern day theatres only have about 2,000 seats. In 465 BC theatre began using backdrops and scenic walls which were hung behind the orchestra. Used for costume changing. They only mainly had about 2-4 actors and they were sexist due to the actors where all male. Performed several roles for which they wore masks. Masks were large and colourful Actors wore padded clothing and shoes with large soles to make them appear larger to the audience. Especially those seated in the upper rows of the amphitheatre.

Theatres have changed since the ancient Greeks in several ways such as they are indoors. Also the costumes and the theatres it selves are different. But the actual content remains similar. Revolving on tragedies and love. Over the years since 1920’s to the modern day, there has been various of changes such as the main change in the 1920’s was developments in sound recording and the introduction of the gramophone, motion picture and the talkies, developments with the railway, new dances or routines these affect the musical by involving the form of music and feeling towards the play. Also did you know that in the 20’s post war women became more independent, advances in railway more opportunities for theatres to tour which ment that the used transport to go to the common and most valuable theatres. Now onto the 1930’s what has changed, well there was a few changes such as there was less money for entertainment. Also talkies set a strong challenge for theatre, only a few shows (500) on Broadway and London’s West End. However there was the first American musical to star an African American in that era.

Now to the 1940’s Berlin, Rogers and Hammerstein was the main duo act in the period of time they brought laughs and jokes to the theatre industry also new dance routine, stronger plots and songs that furthered the action. Dances that developed the narrative and characters moving away from original conventions, narratives linking to social themes- i.e. domestic violence, crime, suicide, racism. Therefore the 1950’s however where into the digital era such as musicals turned into films and television was in black and white. They also became the main adapting existing literature i.e. West side story is a re adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Then we link to the 1960’s which was the rock and roll era, and rock musical had came about and the leather jackets, also less focus on romantic plots becoming darker i.e. Sondheim's ‘Sweeny Todd’ and the musicals where mainly based around more controversial themes.

Some insisted that the "Golden Age" of the Broadway musical was over, but the 1970s saw the art form thrive with bold and fresh energy rock Musicals flourish, Musicals become more diverse, Black and white cast members Hair and Rent. There were many different based rocks musical such as grease which is still look at in the present day.
The musical based in the 80’s/90’s Pop influenced new scores, Larger casts, better sets and special effects i.e. Falling chandelier (Phantom of the Opera), Helicopter landing (Miss Saigon). Walt Disney was most popular in the 80’s/90’s i.e. The Lion King, Rise in ticket prices- smaller audiences. Targeting younger audiences i.e. Rent- young cast, heavy rock influence. This is all linked to the present day because if this stuff didn’t happen we would have the films that we have today so we should appreciate for what they have done.

The musical that evolve the modern day era are the musical such as Mamma Mia, all three High School Musicals and the common day Fame. These represent the era that we have look back on and we should look forward to in many years to come.

Performance review

In this review I will be talking about the year 10 creative media diploma, the musical we produced was spotlight it included musical from different era they were grease, dream girls, fame, phantom of the opera and high school musical. My role was photography and set design had its ups and downs but most of them were ups.

My first role was photography and the second was set design, we done many things in photography such as take long range shots close ups and we even done side angles the way we done it was so good on the night I took 99 photos just as long and close shots. And in set design my second choice we also done many things such as set the background up while the show was in play and make the props they used in the musical. Such as the props used in the photos I have been taking like the stereo player I made it also came under the section 3-D visual art. The photos that I had done was shots of the performers/actors, lighting, set design, costume/fashion and video display I took photos of them practicing their roles for my documentary on the photos I had taking for the main event on the 1st December. Before the 1st December my strengths I had achieved during the time I was practicing the rehearsal the digital camera's battery kept on going off.

Over the time I was taking photos and setting the background of the set for the night, I also had to do a recorded blog on the website Blogger to explain what we did on the days that I had the media diploma class which was three times a week and we had one Thursday off just for us to do media all day, I am sure the date we had the day just for media diploma was the 26th November, for that whole day of media I finished my second page of photos for the documentary the first one I finished on the 19th November. However as well as me going photography I also had set design, the main achievement I done for the set design was drawing and painting a 3-D visual cassette player which was used as one of the props in the play. If I had to change anything differently next time I would change the time on what we done the play and have more time to prepare for the play because towards the end it was a bit of a rush.

On the night of the performance, I believe that I done well taking photos but I have to wait for my teacher to decide if I did well or not. During the play there were about four of us taking photos of the performance and us as a team we done well but we all took different shots of the actors and actresses, like I was doing long and close range shots while the others was doing side shots and others was doing low angles aiming up, because I was the head of Photography I had the privilege to use the slr digital I camera will the 200 times optical zoom. The audience overall responded to the play very well, I believe they thoroughly enjoyed the play. In the next unit which is festival about the environment, you will need filming and photography people and I am perfect for that.

Today the 26th November, I have just finished my second sheet of documentry on the photos me and my team have been taking. Also today I have finished painting the stereo tape recorder, it look just like the real thing. Today I have been finishing the power point I have been working on with my partner Damon Carey we are doing the 1940 musicals. I have done the power point using the producers and music directors from that era they are Roger and Hammerstein the famous duo act and the music directors Kurt Julian Weill and Hal B. Wallis. I am very pleased on what I have produced in the power point and the deapth and detail I and Damon have put into the powerpoint. I also was very anxious and nervous to see what Miss Ogiste and my class mates thought of the powerpoint when we displayed it to everyone.

In this section of work I have been reseaching musicals from the earliest of 1920's to the present day. From that i have done a time line, a collage, watched a musical called "dancing in the streets" and writen a review about it.

On the 24th September Dancing in the streets musical came to the Alexandra theatre this to gave us a live view of what a musical is all about. What I liked about the musical are the various different singers such as The Miracles, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder.

There are many effects in the Musical that are utilised on stage such as the smoke machine to give texture to the performance, the spotlight and other stage lights to create the mood and feel of the performance. there also was unlit light from where the band which enabled the main singers to have all the attention there was loads of different musical objects played such as the keyboard, guitar, bongos, bass, drums, saxophone and the trumpet all being played in the professional way . There also was a large image of buildings in the background to give the mo-town look. In the production of the musical the costumes were the style of that era and was very brightly coloured.

In conclusion, I think the musical was good because of the performers that was singing were profession and exiting to look at and could actually sing and I got some educational value out of it, it would be perfect for the people who like mo-town era music, overall I give the performance 8/10.

For this unit i will be reseaching the musical and how it has developed since the 1920's and present day. I have begun my reseach by going onto http://www.google.co.uk/ and typed in musicals since 1920's and clicked the wikipedia one and it gave me all the infomation i wanted about musicals since 1920 to the present day included the famous ones such as "High School Musical" in present day and the very first musical in the 1920's was called "A Dangerous Maid"

High School Musical was produced on stage in 2006 and was put on to screen in 2006 as well also was directed by Kenny Ortega.
Grease was produced on screen in 1978 and was directed by Randal Kleiser.
